The Breakfast Club

The Skipah’s Meteorological panel will rate today’s weather a seven on the Eskimo scale.  Sun at least showed up for once today and warmed it up to…….24 frigging degrees.  I was ready to wear flip-flops and a tank top to work today,  saw on the news this evening that my neighbors to the south are finally getting some of this crap.  That’s weather karma!  Why have half the population suffer, were all Americans (most of us, I’m calling you out illegal immigrant and wacky terrorist cell in Fairfax, Vermont) we should all be miserable together!  The collective sigh of relief you may have heard this morning was every parent being relieved that area schools were in session today, although some were on delay there was no scrambling for emergency child care.

Tomorrow I’m back on the lunch beat at school, I wrote about it here, once again I’m with my battle tested  experienced co-pilot.  After tomorrow we will be forever known as “The Breakfast Club”.  Not because we will be sitting unsupervised all day in detention on a Saturday (that’s realistic, said no one), but once again we are serving breakfast to the children.  I’m thinking of starting the largest food fight in school history!  I’ve built a military grade cinnamon apple catapult that I will use to mortar fire the kids that sit in the back of the cafeteria.  For the short-range kids I’ve developed a hash brown howitzer that will carpet bomb the kids with potato residue.  I’m pretty sure I can recruit the second graders to join up on our side.  Our “nuclear” bomb will be the ham and egg cheese melt (think I’ll be eating the complimentary chicken patty tomorrow), I’m checking with my Department of Defense contacts to borrow a drone to deliver this weapon of mass mess and will use it after softening the kids up with an apple and spud attack.  We are going to take over the lunch room tomorrow!  If the kids don’t relent I will have to get diabolical and dip into the peanut butter sandwich arsenal!  Don’t think I won’t be packing a HAZMAT suit, latex gloves, and a Epipen with me tomorrow!  It’s on you little crumb snatchers!

Obviously that was an awful attempt at satire (maybe), but big day for me tomorrow.  Start the path towards Catholicism in the morning then lunch duty.  Therapist appointment in the afternoon, and then I get to meet a couple of dad bloggers tomorrow evening.  This guy and this dude, cue up “It’s a Small World” actually don’t and any parent that’s been to Disney can tell you why!  Therapist you may ask?  I’ve touted for weeks I’m all good now, there is a reason I’m all better.  Amazing family, awesome friends, and my therapist all are woven into my inner fabric now.  As I’ve stated before I am very fortunate to have great health insurance, seeing my therapist doesn’t cost me a dime out-of-pocket why quit now?  I don’t need a cheerleader anymore, I need some one to bitch to, and she is more than receiving to listen to me gripe.  Out of everything I’ve learned since getting divorce dropped on me is DO NOT HOLD IT IN.  Last summer it was losing my marriage, then the custody battle, now it’s co-parenting frustration.  Everyone needs an outlet, friends and family definitely fill the void, but having a professional to lean on can’t be underestimated.  The professionals have seen it time and time again, and can offer a neutral opinion.  If you are that guy/girl who thought you were “above” needing therapy going through a life changing event then you are only fooling yourself and decent chance you will be regretting that mindset in the future.  Nobody is as tough as they think they are, it took going through a divorce for me to realize that.  Luckily for me I found a rock star therapist, and I always look forward to our sessions!

Going to wrap it up for tonight, have to perfect the scope on the hash brown howitzer and check the range on my cinnamon apple catapult.  I’m still smiling though, and whatever life throws at me I don’t plan on not smiling!

  7. I’ll see what I can do! Maybe send them via carrier pigeon to cut down on the shipping costs.

  8. Think you can get some of those hash browns across the Atlantic? They sound pretty good.

  9. I couldn’t have said that better myself! I call my therapist a paid cheerleader LOL

  10. I bitch and moan about the weather but thankfully I don’t live in the north I would go insane!

  11. Congrats on being a Featured Act in the End Ring this week! I really have the urge to see if The Breakfast Club is on Netflix because of this post! 😉

We’re so glad you were able to make it over to the #BigTopBlogParty this week! Hope to see you again at the next Party Under the Big Top too!

    Wishing you a fabulous week!

  12. I wish we could move past the stigma that seems to still hover around seeing a therapist, counselor, psychologist, or psychiatrist. I know people who see a counselor who call them their highly paid friends. They say it gives them a much needed sounding board and person to talk to that is not invested in the decisions. When your “real” friends and family have motives that go with your dilemmas, it can be hard to trust their advice. An outsider with training is an impartial opinion.

  13. I actually somewhat feel bad for you and your weather, as I sit here in my shorts and barefeet. With a high of 60 degrees and the sun was out… I find it easy to daydream and get distracted. Blogging is my therapy. Great to have you join us again at Party Under The Big Top. Looking forward to seeing you again next week! #BigTopBlogParty

  14. No food fight, but had a great time :). Awesome day for me!

  15. so… Did you have the food fight!! We are inspired to do the same down here! You’re a bad influence! Lol! 😉

  16. Best thing I have ever did in recent memory, good luck to you next week. I know the crap you have had to endure!

  17. Who doesn’t love a food fight!! Always fun!
You’re right about the going through trauma and needing a professional. It is unbelievable to be able to go through something without realising that you struggle to do so. I have seen some help. But there have been some barriers over here in the UK. 4 years on and I am getting my first help next week.

    Great post as always.

  18. I can only imagine how bad the driving is in areas that never get bad weather! It’s bad enough here! My therapist has turned into a paid friend LOL, She reads and even gives it out to other people that are in similar situations. Thanks for reading as always!

  19. My day is jam packed, luckily the sun has gotten the snow off the roads it’s just COLD now :(, thanks for reading as always!

  20. Yep, the cold hit here in Texas. Icy roads, our crappy heater, and inexperienced drivers make it all suck. Luckily I don’t have to drive anywhere, but I don’t like my wife having to, and even walking our neighbor hood on ice while holding my daughter is risky. Stupid weather.

Totally agree on not holding things in. I used to do that and it got me no where……fast. Never had a therapist, but sounds like she’s proven to be quite helpful. Think she reads your blog? I’m sure she’d be happy to know how well you’re doing thanks to her help!

Have a great day tomorrow, I’m sure you’ll give a full report once it’s over!

  21. What a great post! I’m totally in for the massive food fight and would so have your back if I weren’t a few thousand miles away! Sounds like you have a busy day tomorrow… Stay warm and be safe in all the snow…

    xx
