Five Photos & Story Challenge #1-Sloane’s First Ever Reds Game

My blogger buddy Athena invited me to a 5 day challenge to join the Five Photos, Five Stories Challenge: “Post a photo each day for five consecutive days and attach a story to the photo. It can be fiction or non-fiction, a poem or a short paragraph and each day nominate another blogger for the challenge”.

Like I said yesterday I don’t normally participate in these things, but what the hell you only live once.

This will always be one of my favorite pictures of all time.  It was my daughter’s first ever Reds game, we got there plenty earlier and all she wanted to do was roam around the vast nearly empty ballpark.  She was amazed at how green the grass was just how enormous the place was.  Once the game started I don’t think we sat in our seats for more than one inning before moving.  We eventually went to the very top of the stadium in the nose bleed seats to watch a couple of innings.  Luckily it was game one of a double header and this game was from a rain out the month before so the attendance was minimal to say the least.

We are going another Reds game in the near future so who knows I might capture another picture that will have a lasting impression, but on this particular day the blonde bomber got to see the Cincinnati Reds for the first time.  Joey Votto unfortunately was injured and she didn’t get to see him play (her favorite player), but Jay Bruce hit the first homer she ever saw and after every Reds home run they set off fireworks so after that she was rooting for all the Reds to hit a home run.  Johnny Cueto got the win, and Aroldis Chapman got the save in a 4-2 win for the good guys over the Chicago Cubs.

Mind you this took place less than a month after learning my marriage was ending so needless to say I wasn’t 100% there mentally, but watching her cheer for the Reds, gorge herself on popcorn and anything else the ballpark had in sugar products is something I will always remember!

I’ll nominate Raymonda at BritishMumUSA, Ray Ray is an Americanized Brit who may or may not be MI-6.  She’s the mother of two wildly beautiful and successful teenage daughters, and blogs about just a little bit of everything.

  7. That’s a fact, plus when toting around a super excited cute little Reds fan security didn’t really care were we went. They can be sticklers there on a busy day.

  8. Near-empty stadiums are the best. Freedom to sit wherever you want!

  9. At the rate they are going they might not win again this year!
